Environment and The Global Goals
We all have a responsibility to take the environment and climate into account. Our actions and choices have an impact on our planet and it is important that we think about our future generations.
By focusing on sustainability, NORTO will help promote the UN’s Global Goals and work for a sustainable future for our planet. We want to make a positive difference to the environment and our dedication to sustainability shows commitment to creating a better future for everyone.
GREEN FOCUS
A sustainable and green focus
Sustainability, recycling and upcycling are at the core of NORTO. We use materials from certified coniferous forests in Northern Europe and process the wood with care and respect for the surrounding nature by recycling residual wood from wood production. With a sustainable focus in material selection and production, we offer high-quality products with a long shelf life.
The sustainable narrative
The sustainable story of NORTO started in VTI, where the employees have a special respect and love for wood. Respect for forestry, traditional craftsmanship and good materials is the story behind the development of NORTO. The philosophy behind NORTO is to create sustainable products that take into account both the past, present and future. We pay tribute to the forestry and wood production of the past by giving the trees life in the buildings of today and the future. NORTO is also about bringing nature inside and letting natural products become part of our daily lives at home, at work or in public spaces.

UPCYCLING
Upcycling is a central value in the production process of NORTO’s products. Upcycling is a big part of the way of thinking at NORTO, it is involved all the way around – from the tree’s growth in the forest to the finished product.
Optimum utilization of the wood
When VTI receives the raw wood, it is checked according to high quality requirements upon delivery. The raw wood, which is sorted out for the production of furniture and window profiles due to knots or cracks, is used to manufacture NORTO’s products. This means that the raw wood is of high quality, even if it is residual wood. In NORTO, the idea is to use as much of the wood as possible to protect forestry.
Upcycling as a production principle
Upcycling is a central value in the production process of NORTO’s products. At NORTO, we think upcycling all the way around – right from the tree’s growth in the forest to the finished product. The basic idea with the utilization of the unsorted wood is that NORTO adds a new value to the raw material. Through NORTO’s products, the raw wood becomes part of something new and gets a different purpose when we recycle it. For us, it is crucial that we do not further damage the environment by producing our wood products. We preserve the raw wood’s original quality and value, and we ensure that there is no further consumption of materials. This means that our raw wood always has a long life and durability. Part of the raw wood is used for the production of glulam, while the unsorted wood is used for NORTO’s products.
FSC CERTIFIED WOOD
Forests have enormous importance for both people, nature and the climate. We must protect the forests so that future generations can benefit from them, just as we do today. FSC is important as one of the tools to ensure exactly this.
We do not compromise with our wood
At NORTO, we have a strong focus on sustainability, and we do not compromise. That is why we only use residual wood from FSC certified forestry.
Forests have enormous importance for both people, nature and the climate. We must protect the forests so that future generations can benefit from them, just as we do today. FSC is important as one of the tools to ensure exactly this.
The FSC certification is a guarantee that no more wood is cut in the forest in question than the forest can reproduce. At the same time, it is a guarantee that animals and plant life are protected and that the people who work in the forest work under orderly conditions.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an equal collaboration between different forest interests that have agreed on guidelines for sustainable forest management. FSC respects economic, social and natural interests.
