Sustainable wall covering of upcycled wooden blocks

NORTO Dahl is a sustainable wall covering made of upcycled end wood blocks from residual production in the stair industry. A stair post that became a wooden block in a wall decoration is the story behind NORTO Dahl. Scraps from stair posts to England have been picked up from the waste container and recycled into a rustic wall decoration. In this way, we protect the forests’ and nature’s precious resources when the square wooden blocks get new life.

Description

NORTO Dahl is a sustainable wall covering made from upcycled end wood blocks in pine from residual production in the stair industry. The wood comes from certified forestry in Northern Europe. The wall covering is for indoor use.

The end wood blocks are offcuts from production, and therefore vary in the thicknesses of 10, 15 and 20 mm. The wooden blocks are mounted on a back plate measuring 560x320x26 mm. Skilled workers have carefully sorted and assembled the wooden blocks based on their different patterns, thicknesses and natural details to create a wall covering that has a unique design.

The varying surface structure is reminiscent of small valleys in nature – hence the name NORTO Dahl. The variation of the surface creates a 3D effect and at the same time contributes to better acoustics in the room, as wood as an organic material also has a sound dampening function in itself.

NORTO Dahl is suitable for covering entire walls or as smaller wall decorations in restaurants, cafes, in shop or office environments or on the front of a reception desk.

Reference projects
